Day 3: Zalgiris wins fourth straight ANGT Kaunas title

The host team U18 Zalgiris Kaunas has defeated U18 CFBB Paris 57-62 at the Zalgirio Arena on Saturday, lifting its fourth consecutive ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Kaunas crown. It is fifth Kaunas tournament title for Zalgiris - having previously won the event in 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 - and team holds a perfect 20-0 record on home floor in this tournament. With this title Zalgiris has also earned a place at the ANGT Finals in Istanbul at the 2017 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four next May! Rokas Jokubaitis led the winner with 18 points and 6 assists in the final, and Lukas Uleckas also scored in double-digits with 10 points. Zalgiris forward Grantas Vasiliauskas collected 12 rebounds, along with 8 points and 2 blocks in victory, and has earned a place in All-Tournament team, as did CFBB’s Ivan Fevrier, who had 13 points and 9 boards in the title game. The tournament MVP is Aleksandar Ershov of U18 CSKA Moscow, and All-Tournament also features Yauhen Massalski of U18 Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius and Isaac Bonga of Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt.

The ANGT Finals will take place from May 18 to 21, during the weekend of the 2017 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Istanbul, Turkey. Along with Zalgiris, also qualified is U18 FC Barcelona Lassa which earned its ticket by winning ANGT L’Hospitalet last weekend. The duo will be joined in Istanbul by the winners of the other two remaining ANGT qualifying tournaments - in Coin, Spain, and in Belgrade, Serbia - which both take place in February.

In earlier action on Saturday, U18 CSKA Moscow beat U18 Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 80-102 to win third place in Kaunas. U18 CBA Las Palmas defeated U18 Fenerbahce Istanbul 59-83 to claim fifth place, while U18 VEF Riga held off U18 Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt 69-72 for seventh place.
