Zalgiris meets Rytas in first-place game
It will be an-all Lithuania battle in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Kaunas first-place game as host side U18 Zalgiris Kaunas and reigning continental champion U18 Rytas Vilnius advanced to Sunday’s big game at Zalgirio Arena.
In Saturday’s Round 3 games, Zalgiris eased past U18 CFBB Paris 58-72 to take the top spot in Group A with a 3-0 record. Kerr Kriisa led the way with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the two-time continental champion Zalgiris, which returns to the first-place game after missing out on the contest last season and ending up with a third placed finish. The Lithuanian club won the ANGT Kaunas in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Meanwhile, CFBB finished the group with a 2-1 record for second place and will play in the third-place game against U18 Stellazzurra Rome. U18 Torrons Vicens L’Hospitalet picked up its first victory in the group by winning a shoot-out with U18 Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar 93-96 in overtime. Mauro Abad collected 24 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals and Guillem Tallada scored 19 points for L’Hospitalet, which will play in the fifth-place game against U18 CSKA Moscow while debutant Lokomotiv will finish off in the seventh-place game against U18 DBA Copenhagen.
Rytas booked its spot in the first-place game despite losing its final Group B game to Stellazzurra 84-82 as Nicola Giordano and Matteo Visintin both scored 16 points for Stellazzurra and Yannick Nzosa had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 blocks. Both teams finished at 2-1 and in a three-way tie with CSKA, but Stellazzurra needed a double-digit victory to overtake Rytas for first place. Azoulas Tubelis collected 26 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals for Rytas, which also won the continental title last season, one of two wins over Stellazzurra, the other being in the ANGT Kaunas first-place game. CSKA finished Group B play with a record-breaking 108-55 victory over Copenhagen. Vladislav Golden collected 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead CSKA, which set a new single game ANGT record for the most assists in a game with 36, besting the mark of 34 by U18 Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade from ANGT Belgrade 2016-17 against U18 Buducnost VOLI Podgorica.
